About Charlie
From the age of two Charlie wanted to be a ballerina and took classes in ballet, tap and modern dance. She went to the prestigious Bush Davies School at the age of 12 and danced with The London Festival Ballet in their production of The Nutcracker. As a student she attended The Urdang Academy of Ballet and Performing Arts in Covent Garden.
After graduating with a Diploma and her teaching qualifications (A.I.S.T.D) Charlie successfully auditioned to be a showgirl for ‘Circo Tihany Spectacular’ and toured Mexico City, Monterrey, Laredo, Houston, New Orleans & Miami . She also danced in Casino Espino in Portugal before returning to England with her Equity card to embark upon a career in the film & television industry – credits include – London’s Burning, Between The Lines, Eastenders, The Bill, Goodnight Sweetheart, Good Fortune, Birds of a Feather, 2.4 Children, Gulliver’s Travels & numerous TV commercials.
Charlie taught Cecchetti ballet at Hurst Lodge School in Berkshire and then became the principal teacher of The Tramshed Performing Arts Centre in Greenwich London teaching ballet, tap, modern, street dance, drama & jazz dance to children and adults from 15 months to 90 years! Her fifty plus tap class The Tramshed Tappers (the average age was 78) appeared with Charlie twice on the Paul O' Grady Show.
She continued to indulge in her love of dancing with numerous appearances in productions including – Music of the Night and the pantomime’s Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella at The Bob Hope Theatre. She also was the choreographer for productions of Sleeping Beauty and Singing in the Rain for The Bob Hope Theatre.
Charlie is a fully qualified fitness instructor and can teach pre and postnatal ballet and fifty plus classes. You can also book her for hen parties with dance themes such as Fame, Mama Mia, Cabaret, Grease and showgirls.
She moved to Brighton in 2008 and took a break from teaching to have a baby. Since then she has been teaching ballet to adults at Yoga Mamas, The Brighton Natural Health Centre and Bird Studios and children's classes at Bird Studio, BNHC and Smile 2 Live. She also teaches dance and holds craft sessions during the summer holidays as a guest teacher for Bird Studios and BNHC.
When she is not teaching she is an avid writer with five published books including the 'True Diaries Series' of books, 100 Little Words on Parenthood and The Writers' Muse and A Guide to Ballet Class. She is currently working on a theatrical memoir of all her escapades.
Charlie presents a weekly radio show for Coastway Hospital Radio for Brighton and spends her free time with her husband and son, both of who love to dance.
